The Year That Was 2012

As with tradition, I always like spending the last day of the year recapping the year that was. And this year is no different.

The year 2012 has been one amazing year. Its probably due to the belief the world was supposed to end last December 21, 2012 according to the ancient Mayans, that has driven me (and perhaps a lot of other people) to “party like its the end of the world”. The slogan “You Only Live Once” has been a main mantra for the year thus resulting to one helluva rollercoaster ride.

The one highlight for me this 2012 was probably that this is the year when I took flight. Last April 2012, I discovered a love for flying and being suspended in the air. This was the time I discovered Anti-Gravity Yoga. Our love affair began during the end of April where I wanted to try out something new in line with losing weight and focusing on my health. I fell in love with it right away and have not looked back since.

What began as a weekly exercise, has led me into enrolling into teacher training in November where I spent 7 weeks training and teaching this exercise. My journey also led me to meeting the most amazing friends and mentors you can ever ask for.

This discovery has been in line with pursuit of having my health and fitness as one of my top priorities for the year. I was at my heaviest this year, bordering 150lbs and already considered obese.

I enrolled in a health program called the TRA for 60 days where they taught me proper nutrition and eating habits and my life has changed since. Now as I write this, I have already lost about 10lbs already (give or take a good day, since its the holidays) and looking forward to losing more next year.

I am also at my fittest body yet. With my training with yoga, anti-gravity yoga and participations in races, my body has become stronger and flexible. I can do a lot of yoga poses already, including a handstand (but still needs a lot of work) and have starting running 10k races with improved scores every time. My mind in turn also benefitted from it as well as I am not too anxious anymore.

This year marks my 7th year with the company I have been with since I graduated from college and my second year in the Kids’ platform, making it the longest stint I’ve had since I’ve started. This year, the platform has already been established and made a name for itself with the launch of the Bida Best Kid, this station’s kiddie campaign. This led to major projects from some of our top advertisers.

It has also been a good year for travel, but most of the traveling I did was local and a lot were for work. I did a lot of revisiting local places in the Philippines I’ve already been to like Cebu, Davao, Palawan and Cagayan De Oro.

And also discovered new places to love such as surfing in La Union and enjoying the sights and culture of South Korea!

This is probably the year where I’ve seen the most concerts ever. 2012 was just teeming with artists flying over here and a lot of them are really big names at that like Elton John, Sting and Jennifer Lopez. But the ones I’ve went to this year were: Katy Perry, Sergio Mendez, Lady Gaga, NKOTBSB and Maroon 5.

NKTOBSB and Maroon 5 were so far my favorites for the year as I really enjoyed dancing and singing to these two acts and so worth the money spent!

2012 also marks the end of my twenties. And with it came a decade of amazing and fulfilling self-discoveries. It has been a decade of growth, adventure, learnings and awakenings.

I never expected that I would be here where I am today. To be working for a dream company, to be a teacher, own my own car and my own home.

The journey wasn’t easy, many tears, blood and sweat have been shed in this journey to discover myself.

The journey doesn’t end here. Like what the Mayans have predicted, it is not the end of the world.  A new day has dawn and a new year is coming.

Next year I will be venturing off to a new age and a new decade, I devote more time to further discover myself and this time, to expand my world in involving others. These involves changes like moving away from home and taking on responsibilities, accepting a mentoring role such as a supervisory position at work and further pursuing a teaching career. And also finally stepping into new relationships, wether its with a partner, or even my own family.

The future shines bright for 2013 and I look forward to spending it with all of you.

A blessed New Year to everyone! Thank you for the wonderful experience of 2012 and thank you for being who you are to me!

Happy Leap Year Day!

Thirty days hath September,
April, June and November;
February has twenty eight alone
All the rest have thirty-one
Except in Leap Year, that’s the time
When February’s Days are twenty-nine

As this famous nursery rhyme goes, this 2012, we are celebrating a leap year, where in one extra day is added in February every four years.

I think its wonderful to have something like this because its like an extra day to celebrate being alive 🙂
