Cheers to 2011!

Good Life by OneRepublic

A little something to remember 2011 by:

Woke up in London yesterday
Found myself in the city near Piccadilly
Don’t really know how I got here
I got some pictures on my phone

New names and numbers that I don’t know
Address to places like Abbey Road
Day turns to night, night turns to whatever we want
We’re young enough to say

Oh this has gotta be the good life
This has gotta be the good life
This could really be a good life, good life

Say oh, got this feeling that you can’t fight
Like this city is on fire tonight
This could really be a good life
A good, good life

Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh

To my friends in New York, I say hello
My friends in L.A. they don’t know
Where I’ve been for the past few years or so
Paris to China to Col-or-ado

Sometimes there’s airplanes I can’ t jump out
Sometimes there’s bullshit that don’t work now
We are god of stories but please tell me-e-e-e
What there is to complain about

When you’re happy like a fool
Let it take you over
When everything is out
You gotta take it in

The Year That Was 2011

The Year That Was 2011

We’re only a few moments away as we bid goodbye to 2011 and say hello to a brand new year. It’ll be another start, another 366 (it’s a leap year!) days of living, laughing and loving.

It seemed like time traveled so fast this year with all the events that have happened this year that it almost seems like I don’t want it to end. And here we are starting to prepare for the next, even if the previous one seemed like it only just begun.

As per tradition, I do this write-up every end of the year to cap off and complete the year that has just ended. It’s like a closing ceremony to let go of the old and start afresh with the new.

In summary, 2011 was a complete turn-around from the previous year. I’m happy to say that there more ups that downs this year, and this year has been more or less steady with work and life.

New Beginnings

The year was most definitely a year of new beginnings. For starters, with work, I lived the year with, not just one, but two new platforms to handle. After a 2 year stint with entertainment ending with a major breakdown, I transferred to the newest platform created – the Business Development team – wherein we handled new platforms and accounts. We given the challenge to develop the kids shows and market, and also find and nurture new clients for the network. It was indeed a challenge at the beginning, especially coming from such a low point but slowly but surely we established ourselves in the industry, bringing in new and potential revenue to the clients.

In the middle of the year, our group was also tasked to join the new Integrated Sports and S23 team. It definitely was an even bigger challenge to sell the biggest sporting events in the country such as the Azkals, NBA, UAAP and boxing fights but I was at my A game and enjoyed this task immensely.

Sports and Fitness

In line with my new task at work, I developed a love for sports and sporting events. This year was mostly sports and adventure centered. My family took a love for cycling and running and often went to watch races like the Subic International Triathlon. We also participated in the Men’s Health bike race and Run for Women’s Health Marathon. I personally joined the McHappy run as well, running 5k races, and looking forward to more in 2012.

Football fever was also the rage this year with the Philippine Azkals qualifying for a seat in the World Cup. I have loved football since I was in high school and extremely pleased with the growing passion for the sport. I have watched quite a lot of their games this year and the experience was always fantastic! The highlight of the year was seeing them play against top American football team, LA Galaxy, and meeting international football stars David Beckham, Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane during the trip.

I also was a fitness buff for 2012 when I reenrolled in a gym that was one tumbling away the house. No excuses not to work out anymore. I found myself growing stronger at that. But still a long way to go from my ideal weight.

Travel and Adventure

I got to travel a lot this year, for which I am really pleased about, and not only that, I got to go to places I haven’t been to. This year my travel list included: Bellarocca in April with Len, Elai and John; Guam with Mitzie and Shierlly; Boracay with Ria, Davis and Char; Hong Kong with Juni, Deci and Richie, and CamSur for AdCongress. I have loved every minute of it and had the most wonderful times with my friends and family.

Bellarocca and Guam are really good recommendations if you want to relax and get away for a few days. Boracay in August is even better than the summer months as it is not as hot or as crowded. Hong Kong is a must-do again, but I want to try it during winter time. And CamSur has come a long way since we went in 2008.

Culinary Challenges

The officemates and I signed up for cooking class this year and it was lots of fun! For 12 weeks, we learned to cook from salads to soups to entrees to asian dishes. Since we didn’t get to do desserts, we also indulged in self-taught baking! I now am able to cook my signature dishes – Lasagna, Fish with Horseradish Crust, Chicken Teriyaki, Japchae and Pandan, and other dishes for family and friends. My brother just recently found a new love for baking and I helped him indulge in baking my favorites – cupcakes!

Me Against The Music

This was a good year in music with so many foreign acts to come visit the country and I was very blessed to have enjoyed seeing three of my all-time favorite acts! The first was The Script in April with Ria, then Maroon 5 with Cheson and Westlife with my sister. It was very fortunate that I got to see Westlife for one last time before they announced their disbandment for 2012.

Despididas and Changes

Aside from the changes at work, there were also changes in life as well. This year I arranged despididas for a few friends who are now living abroad or changed work. The first is my of my good friends, Mimi, my buddy and partner in crime from Landmark Education, as she relocated to San Francisco for work. Second is one of my best friends from HS, Rizza, who now resides in Chicago with her husband. And last is my teammate Chickoy, who resigned from work and is now one of my clients. I only wish I could have spent much more time with them, but I’m glad social media has paved the way for us to catch up and communicate with each other even if we’re far away.

Our friends also had happy changes in their lives as well, as Mel and Jan added baby Xabi Aryana to their brood and Leinee and Sherwin welcomed baby Shawn Jayden. The college barkada also experienced our first wedding – with May Ann and Jr Abustan tying the knot in 11-11-11.

Viva La Vida!

Cheers to a blessed 2011! I am really proud to say that I have come a long way from I was at the start of the year. The healing and growing process continues and will continue on to the next year.

I am extremely thankful to the Lord for an amazing 2011. Its by faith and trust in him that I have learned to pick myself up and go on to live. And I trust that despite whatever may come, He will continue to hold my hand and help me up whenever I fall. I have been very blessed.

As the saying goes, 2012 will supposedly be the “end of the world.” And I am making 2012 to be the year that I will just LIVE as if it will be my last. New challenges, new relationships, new adventures, all adding to my bucket list of must dos before it all ends. 2012 will be one awesome year!

A blessed New Year to everyone! Thank you for the wonderful experience of 2011 and thank you for being who you are to me! 🙂 Looking forward to being with all of you in 2012!

VIVA LA VIDA

Coldplay

I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own

I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy’s eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing
“Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!”

One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand

I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field

For some reason I can’t explain
Once you go there was never
Never an honest word
And that was when I ruled the world

It was the wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn’t believe what I’d become

Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh who would ever want to be king?

I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field

For some reason I can’t explain
I know Saint Peter won’t call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world
