Movie Review: The Avengers

What do you do when the earth is threatened by a serious otherworldly invasion of power tripping demi-gods and his mean alien posse? Who do you call?

S.H.I.E.L.D Director Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) calls for reinforcements called the Avengers Initiative (simply called the Avengers) from the world’s mightiest heroes – Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Black Widow (Scarlet Johanssen) to come and save the world from Thor’s evil adopted brother Loki from ruling the world and unleashing the Chitauri alien race on the planet through a gateway opened by the Tesseract (last seen in Captain America).

The movie was pure entertainment and it was a real treat to see all your favorite heroes in one movie. And that was the pure theme of the movie – what happens when you put all of them together? Usually it spells disaster with so many ego fighting over each other. I guess the greatest lesson taught in the movie is teamwork – by working together you can overcome even the most frightening of enemies.

The movie was over two hours well-spent. The actors were funny with their wit and sarcasm, especially with all the big egos and testosterone put together. But it also had its fair share of sweet and tender moments that make you want to go awwwww. The special effects were great and there was never a dull moment. Although some of the characters were given more airtime than the rest, it was great to see ample time was given to the likes of the characters Bruce Banner/The Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye to work on some of their backstory given these characters had no solo movies previously or the previous movies were done way back or I haven’t seen.

I definitely recommend everyone to watch it, and its currently in the top spot for best movie of 2012 for me.
