On the Feast of the Epiphany, the Parkwood Chapel Lectors and Commentators group opened our arms and hearts to the dear kids of the Tahanan ng Pagmamahal (House of Love) to share our blessings.
The shelter is run by Mr. Rey Ortega in a small house in Pasig. Tahanan ng Pagmamahal Children’s Home Inc. is a a duly registered non-stock, non-profit organization under the securities and Exchange Commission, currently having 5 directors and 10 trustees is now also opening it’s doors for membership.
They currently house 18 children, with 5 house mothers to take care of them. These are abandoned and abused children, some having been picked up from the streets or have been entrusted by their parents.
The kids are all girls ranging from 3-20 and are being sent to school. The foundation is mostly funded by donations.
The house is small but its filled with brightly colored walls and pictures of the kids on the stairwell. Laughter can be heard all around as the kids welcomed us to their homes.
We started the afternoon with some introductions by the kids and ourselves. The kids not only told their names but also included what they wanted to be when they grow up. There were a lot of teachers, lawyers and doctors in the bunch.
We started off with some fun games organized and spearheaded by Tita Alice Belen and her helpers Kookie and Bea.
After which a some snacks of spaghetti and fried chicken were served to the kids, courtesy of Vida.
After the snack, the kids received some lessons on proper dental care courtesy of our resident dentist Tita Alice and resident dentistry student Kookie and received gift packs from them.
The kids showcased their talents to us after the demonstration. Music and laughter filled the small house 🙂
Too soon it was time to go, but not without some presents from us 🙂 We gave them cute huggable pillows with matching mattresses for sleeping.
It was a fun and happy day and bless these little hearts with big dreams.
AN: This is me with the youngest one, Mutya. I just love her! And she has also developed a particular attachment to me as well. She fell asleep towards the end of the program cuddled in my arms 🙂
